According to Chinese astrological tradition, each year is ruled by one of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs (Pig, Rat, Ox, Monkey, etc) plus one of the five elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water). Sixty combinations in all.
The Aquarius new moon on 29th January 2025 ushered in the Chinese New Year of the Green Wood Snake. The Snake symbolises wisdom, mystery, and elegance, while the Green Wood element represents creativity, growth, renewal, and vitality.
The February new moon falls in the very last degree of air sign Aquarius on the 19th February – the second Aquarian new moon of 2015. The Chinese celebrate their New Year at this new moon which ushers in the Year of the Green or Wood Sheep (also known as the Year of the Goat).

The Chinese Year of the Metal Tiger begins on the 14th February at the Aquarian new moon. Those born in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986 and 1998 are all born in the year of the Tiger.
The Chinese Year of the Brown Earth Ox begins on the 26th January at the Aquarian new moon. Those born in 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985 and 1997 are all born in the year of the Ox. Oxen are traditionally stable, persevering and tolerant individuals with very strong wills.
