FEBRUARY LUNAR ECLIPSE
\Australia Day brought a new moon, the Chinese New Year and a powerful solar eclipse in Aquarius. Two weeks later at the full moon on the 10th February we have a companion lunar eclipse in opposite sign Leo (21 degrees). Eclipses have a tendency to intensify situations and bring hidden energies to the surface so it’s wise to avoid making major decisions or starting new projects just before an eclipse, as new information often comes to light at the time of the eclipse, forcing us to revise our plans. We also have the chance to break out of old patterns and embrace new opportunities.
The lunar eclipse has as its symbol: ‘Premature Expansion of Consciousness’ – a warning about the need to stay grounded and connected when approaching spiritual matters. The Sun conjuncts Chiron at this full moon bringing healing and clarity.
The effects of these eclipses will last for the next six months, so expect lessons on the emotional plane and learn how to develop a good healthy ego (Leo) combined with a sensitivity towards the needs of the collective (Aquarius). As Leo rules the heart, your love life may come up for review or simply a desire for more relaxation, fun and pleasure.
FEBRUARY NEW MOON
The February new moon is in dreamy Pisces on the 25th encouraging us to be true to ourselves and our inner promptings. Pisces is the sign of unconditional love, dreams, fantasy and possibility. Use the new moon energy to plant dreams, meditate, spend time alone and radiate love and warmth to those you care about. This is a particularly productive time for artists and musicians.
RAINBOW SERPENT FESTIVAL
I’ve just returned from the amazing Rainbow Serpent Festival in Beaufort, Victoria where I gave a talk on the current cosmic climate called ‘Rebirthing the Rainbow Serpent’ This talk will be posted on my website along with multi-cultural images of serpent and dragon power plus lots of information on ley lines and the Mayan Calendar. Watch out for that hi-tech happening as I drag myself and my Powerpoint slide show into the 21st century!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY AQUARIUS
From the 20th January to the 18th February the Sun travels through fixed air sign Aquarius, noted for its egalitarian nature, progressive ideas and humanitarian bent. Aquarius is the eleventh sign of the zodiac with keywords “I am different” and “I am detached”. Aquarians are both radical and immovable at the same time. They will often espouse a social or religious movement such as feminism, Buddhism or environmentalism and then remain committed to it for the rest of their lives. Those born under the sign of the Water Bearer often look to the future and have fine minds and a higher vision for society. Many Aquarians excel in the areas of science, technology and politics. At best they use their cool headed idealism to serve humanity. Negatively, Aquarians can be detached and aloof with a rebellious or fanatical streak. In medical astrology, Aquarius rules the calves, ankles and general circulation. When Aquarians are out of balance they can suffer from varicose veins, sprained ankles, irregularities of the heart action and fluid build-up. The Aquarian colours are turquoise, aqua and silver. Aquarius’s greatest lesson is to learn to care for individuals rather than groups.
How to handle an Aquarian
Don’t waste your time. They do pretty well handling themselves and you will not be invited back if there’s even a hint of manipulative behaviour! Aquarians are often accused of being detached and unfeeling. Not only are they an air sign (focus is mental rather than physical or emotional) but the role of an Aquarian is to save the planet not buy you flowers or cook you dinner! So good luck with the ‘handling’ ….the only thing I can suggest is join their cause and be an ally and friend.

TIPS FOR MEN
It pays to be a little off beat when seducing an Aquarian girl. She's not interested in straight laced behaviour, conservative attitudes and jobs that might impress more middle of the road creatures. Tell her how you'd like to make the world a better, fairer place and she'll be impressed straight away. And remember - an Aquarian doesn't really need a partner. When you're busy saving the world or running the local dramatic society it's easier hanging out with groups rather than individuals. So what can you do? Show her that she needs time out and take her out to the country for a long walk or picnic. Tell her you like her.
TIPS FOR WOMEN
Most Aquarians are way ahead of their time, but suffer for this as others find them eccentric. Show him you care by listening to his plans for world peace, a cure for AIDS, improving the human condition or whatever else he might be interested in. You certainly won't be bored, he's an original thinker. However you'd better enjoy listening, because this air sign male has plenty to say and he never stops thinking. Air sign does not mean light on either. He'll leave you for dead if you try and make fun of him. Take him to a serious movie then out for coffee, cake and chewing the fat. He'll enjoy your ideas.
MERCURY RETROGRADE
Mercury turned retrograde on the 12th January in Aquarius forcing us to deal with unfinished business or revise our plans. The solar eclipse in the middle of the retrograde phase took many by surprise, bringing unexpected news and fresh insights. This cycle reverses on the 1st February as Mercury stations and turns direct in earth sign Capricorn. The first part of February is therefore an ideal time to work steadily on projects or ideas that have surfaced over the past few weeks. Mercury heads back into sociable Aquarius in mid February.
FEBRUARY ASTRO ENERGIES
Jupiter travels alongside the North Node in Aquarius throughout the month. This combination tends to bring favourable encounters with others such as job offers, networking, new relationships and friendships.
The Sun is also in Aquarius during the first half of February, flanked by Chiron and Neptune. Chiron relates to the bitterness or hurts that we store in our hearts. Discuss any problems or fears with a friend or counsellor so the healing process can begin. Neptune opens us up to higher possibilities through dream work, creative activities and meditation.
Relationship planet Venus heads into Aries on the 3rd and two days later action planet Mars enters Aquarius. Take the initiative in your relationship or ask that special person out on a date. Both Aries and Aquarius are adventurous signs, so if your love life has been lacking in sparkle, do something about it!
Saturn in Virgo continues to travel in a very tight orb in opposition to Uranus in Pisces @20- 21° for the entire month, reaching exact opposition on the 5th. This represents a tug of war between responsibility and freedom, safety versus change, and the reliable versus the new and exciting, causing a great deal of frustration. Uranus wants freedom and Saturn restricts and wants security. Also on the 5th Venus squares Pluto at 2° Aries/Capricorn provoking passionate desire coupled with the desire to control. Don’t burn your fingers!
The Aquarian energy continues unabated through this second half of February with no less than seven planets in the sign of the Water Bearer. New US President Barack Obama is making good use of this energy, planning sweeping reforms of America’s prison system and promising a collective and more humble approach to international affairs. Aquarius always seeks to put the group before the individual, so we can follow Obama’s example and ask ourselves: ‘What can I do to make the world a better place?’ Aquarius is also the sign of science and technology, so seize the opportunity to upgrade your computer, buy new software or improve your game collection!
Fiery Mars joins Jupiter and the North Node in Aquarius in mid-February bringing optimism, enthusiasm and a desire to take bold action. Success is practically guaranteed for those who seize the opportunity! A favourable angle between relationship planets Venus and Mars promises successful social occasions and injects passion and sexual energy into relationships.
