March Full Moon
The March full moon falls on the 6 th in practical earth sign Virgo. This is a healing full moon with the Sun in Pisces flanked by Neptune and Chiron and the Moon in Virgo conjunct Black Moon Lilith and trine Pluto. Emotions will be running high, but the depth or darkness of feelings could take you by surprise. Relationships issues are likely to surface with a spicy Mars-Uranus-Venus conjunction, and in particular the question of freedom vs commitment. Stay with your feelings, meditate, write in your journal and avoid making any snap decisions until you’ve had time to sort out what exactly is going on. .
March New Moon & Solar Eclipse
On the 20th March, at the new moon on the day before the autumn equinox, we have a total eclipse of the sun, but unless you happen to be in Norway or the Faroe Islands, you’ll simply feel the effects of the eclipse, rather than see the spectacle with your own eyes! (You will, however, be able to enjoy next month’s lunar eclipse on the 4th April, visible at 8pm in Western Australia, 10 pm in Queensland and 11 pm in Victoria and New South Wales.)
Solar eclipses begin new chapters in our lives and their effects are usually felt for at least the next six months. An eclipse represents a period of darkness that can throw us off-balance. During a solar eclipse, lunar concerns (gut feelings, emotional patterns, subconscious mind and habits) somehow interfere or block out our outwardly focused yang energy (the sun) which can be an enlightening or frightening experience, depending on our level of self- awareness.
The March solar eclipse is at 29 degrees Pisces, the very last degree of the zodiac, considered by astrologers to be a karmic point representing enlightenment and the completion of karmic lessons. This is the point at which an old cycle ends and a new one begins, where we emerge out of the collective nature of Pisces into the field of active and pioneering Aries. This could be a time to complete unfinished business, leave the past behind and begin to express our true nature. The closest planet to the new moon eclipse is Chiron, the healing planet, suggesting this eclipse could also be about healing old wounds
On a world level, an eclipse in the final degree of the zodiac could signal the end of some outmoded economic, political, military, corporate and religious ideas and institutions, paving the way for newer, better models where people work together to institute positive change. Pie in the sky? Maybe, but the winds of change are blowing and our Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, has both the March and April eclipses hitting his birth chart. The March solar eclipse is close to his Moon and the April lunar eclipse and nodal axis straddle his Ascendant-Descendant axis. He has survived one leadership challenge, but his time in the sun could soon be over.
If you have a copy of your birth chart, look up the house of the eclipse (29 - 30° Pisces) to see which part of life will be affected by the solar eclipse. For example if the eclipse falls in your 2nd house, your values and relationship to money will change. If it falls in your 7th house, your marriage or relationship will be affected.
Venus & Mars – The Cosmic Lovers
The theme of love and romance is strong in 2015 as Venus and Mars, the cosmic lovers meet up not just once, but three times this year in late February (Aries), early September (Leo) and early November (Virgo) In fact throughout the year, Venus and Mars stay relatively close together, making 2015 a time of unity, cooperation and togetherness.
Mars rules self-expression, passion, independence and autonomy while Venus describes our need for sensuality, love and relationship. When Venus and Mars unite in the heavens this marks the beginning of a new cycle - a time when hearts open and new relationships can be formed. We’ll have more on the Venus-Mars conjunctions as the year progresses, but in the meantime, know that this is a year to either love the one you’re with or embrace a more passionate existence with someone new.
Final Uranus-Pluto Square – Embracing Change
The thing the sixties did was to show us the possibilities and the responsibility that we all had. It wasn't the answer. It just gave us a glimpse of the possibility. John Lennon
Many will breathe a sigh of relief with the advent of the final Uranus-Pluto square in mid-March providing some breathing space from the upheaval and changes of the past 2-3 years. Over this period we have seen a lot of shifting and movement in our world both on a personal and a collective level. Many peoples’ lives have changed beyond recognition, particularly in 2013 and 2014. This is all part of a cycle which began in the late 1960s when Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in the heavens and revolution was in the air.
Uranus is the great awakener, the astrological wild card. Functioning primarily as a catalyst for change, Uranus liberates by pulling the carpet out from underneath our carefully planned lives. Disruptive and destabilising, but also progressive and innovative, Uranus is associated with technology and science and rules the creative and emotionally- detached sign, Aquarius.
Pluto represents the potentially destructive, titanic forces of nature, including human nature. Elemental, volcanic and powerful Pluto rises from the depths, transforming everything in his wake. Pluto is the deeper octave of Mars, the god of war and passion and rules the intense and passionate sign of Scorpio.
In the first half of 2015, the Uranus-Pluto square will continue to push us to break down the old and make room for the new. Those who have the courage to let go and trust, to embrace the changes and face their inner demons and shadow self will receive the gifts of growth, wisdom and authenticity New doors will open as old ones close. This final square coincides with the total solar eclipse when Mars conjuncts Uranus in Aries, the sign Mars rules, while simultaneously squaring Pluto.
Featured Sign-Pisces
From the 19th February to the 21st March, the Sun travels through mutable water sign Pisces, noted for her dreaminess, escapist nature and love of fantasy. Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac with keywords, “I merge” and “I seek redemption”. With Pisces, the inner self is preparing for retreat from the world and as the ego dissolves, boundaries are weakened and impressionability and sensitivity increases. Pisceans are versatile and adaptable, gentle and compassionate. They are often psychic and highly attuned to the spiritual plane. Those born under the sign of the Fishes excel as counsellors, healers, actors, artists and musicians. Many are attracted to the fashion, movie and creative industries. At best they serve humanity and practice unconditional love. Negatively, Pisceans can be victims and martyrs, known for self-sabotage or self-sacrifice. There is also a tendency to rescue or ‘save’ others. In medical astrology, Pisces rules the toes, feet and lymphatic system. There is sometimes a reflex effect on the abdominal region governed by opposite sign, Virgo. When Pisceans are out of balance they often suffer from foot trouble, intestinal diseases and fluid build-up. Addiction to drugs and alcohol is also common as is escapist behaviour. The Pisces colours are sea green, purple and the various shades of blue. Pisces’s greatest lesson is to learn discrimination and to protect and ground themselves.
Celebrating the Autumn Equinox
21st March, the autumn equinox, is a key date in the astrological calendar as the Sun moves from Pisces to Aries and day and night are of equal length. Many ancient civilisations considered the equinox and solstice points the most important days of the calendar. For the next six months, nights are longer than days, meaning it is time to start withdrawing energy from the outer world and prepare for the cooler months ahead. Stock up your kitchen shelves and freezer and get your house and garden in order. The autumn equinox is a good time to get rid of any unwanted possessions – old clothes, furniture, books, files, papers, you know the sort of thing. Remember the golden rule of decluttering. ‘Is it useful? Is it beautiful? Is it sentimental?’ If it’s none of these, let it go and make space for something new. Old stuff energetically and emotionally drags you down and keeps you from moving forward. You will be amazed how good you will feel when you remove all this 'old stuff' from your life.
March Moon Calendar
Launch projects at the New Moon, bring them to completion in the period from just before the Full Moon to the Third Quarter phase and wind them down and reflect on developments in the week before the next New Moon. The period between the New Moon and the Full Moon is the waxing moon (moon getting bigger and fuller). The period between the Full Moon and the New Moon is the waning moon (moon getting smaller and thinner).
You can use this moon table to select the most favourable days to slow or increase hair regrowth. Full instructions can be found in my Lunar Hair Care guidelines at www.stellastarwoman.com/files/LunarHairCare.pdf but to get you started I’ve marked the best dates for waxing/shaving to slow regrowth in yellow and the best dates to cut hair for thicker, lusher growth in green. If you’re serious about Lunar Hair Care - order your own Moon Calendar from the Stella Starwoman Store then you’ll know exactly what time of day the moon changes from one zodiac sign to the next meaning you can fine-tune your activities with confidence.
