The card shows a young man on a fast moving horse. The man is wearing full armour, sharp spurs, a helmet with open visor and a red cloak. Held high in his right hand is a powerful looking sword. He's clearly going into battle! His white steed is straining at the bit, decked out in a colourful headdress with butterflies, birds and hearts. The horse looks somewhat nervous. White clouds are scudding across the pale blue sky.
Swords in the tarot relate to mental activity. The Knight of Swords knows what he wants and is not afraid to pursue it.
Some key concepts for the Knight Swords are:
• Boldness & Ambition
• Swift, Decisive Action
• Intellectual Energy
• Courage & Confidence
• Focus & Determination
• Impulsiveness & Haste
• Lack of Empathy & Arrogance
• Burnout & Self Destruction
• Impatience & Forcefulness
• Aggression & Ruthlessness
Here are my Knight Swords interpretations for the three most common tarot questions/situations - work, love and health.
1) WORK/MONEY There are two meanings to this card. Either it’s time to go into battle and fight for what you want with a short, sharp campaign that takes no prisoners……..or it’s time to stop fighting and try a different approach. Especially if you’re involved in a long-term battle that requires a more strategic approach. Either way, life is not peaceful, so if the battle has been stressing you out, perhaps it’s time to surrender .
2) LOVE/RELATIONSHIP If this is your man, trouble may lie ahead. He’s too wound up, angry and unfocussed to be able to have a proper, loving relationship. And if this is you, ask yourself why you are rushing around in an angry, stressed out state making life difficult for everyone around you. The Knight of Swords is more like a litigation lawyer than a lover!
3) HEALTH/WELLBEING Stop rushing around and slow down! You can’t approach life at this pace and expect to feel healthy or relaxed. If you’re feeling anxious, angry or upset, book a session with a counsellor or talk to a close friend. Or perhaps it’s time for a holiday or simply a massage. No-one likes to be around someone who is constantly stressed and wound up.
If you have a set of tarot cards, pull out the Knight Swords, take a good look at the image and think about what it might mean for you right now.
