Hello and welcome to the Stella Starwoman January AstroUpdate!
Thank you again to the hundreds of you who have sent your
good wishes and congratulations on my website launch or
who’ve written to say how much you’ve enjoyed reading
your birth chart report or finally finding out what your rising
sign is!
This month you can read about the astrological event of the
year – Pluto’s move into Capricorn. Whether we consider
Pluto a planet or a dwarf planet, his effects remain the
same – the ruthless removal of the old school in favour of
new blood.
The Federation of Australian Astrologers are holding their
international conference over the Australia Day weekend to
celebrate Pluto’s entry into Capricorn. See below for more
details.
And it’s still not too late to take advantage of the special
Moontime Diary offer as featured in the December
AstroUpdate.

LETTER OF THE MONTH – THANK YOU CHRIS!
Hi Stella,
CONGRATULATIONS on the new website which is just fantastic. (The new brochures are
stunning too!)
Thanks very much for the birth chart - which is very detailed and had me nodding my head at
nearly every paragraph. I had been trying to find what my rising sign was for a while now but
with all the charts on all the different websites giving at least three different answers, it was
great to finally find out that it is Leo.
I have passed your details onto some friends who have an interest in astrology and moon
cycles etc, so I hope they take up the offer to join your AstroUpdate or even have a chart
done. Wishing you continued success in your new endeavours.
All the best for Christmas and the New Year.
Cheers, Chris.
PLUTO INTO CAPRICORN (2008 – 2024)
When Pluto, planet of death, transformation and rebirth was discovered in February 1930 in
the sign of Cancer, the Western world was in upheaval. The Wall Street financial crash had
ruined millions of people and fascism was on the rise in Europe. Scientists were in the early
stages of developing the atom bomb and people felt their very survival was under threat. The
principle of Pluto is that something infinitesimally small can have an effect out of all proportion
to its size.
As Pluto moves through each of the zodiac signs, it challenges the status quo in the area of
life relating to that sign, ruthlessly removing outmoded beliefs, systems or institutions. On the
26 th of January, Pluto moves into earth sign Capricorn after twelve years in fire sign
Sagittarius and will remain there until 2024. Pluto’s transit through Sagittarius has brought us
the Internet and information revolution, international terrorism, the concept of the global
village and an awareness of worldwide environmental issues. Capricorn rules business, work,
government, authority and institutions. So what changes do we need to make in these areas
of life over the coming decade?
The war on terrorism, drugs and immigration has provided an unprecedented opportunity for
authorities to remove human rights and freedoms and impose strict controls. National security
has become the new mantra - airport searches; ID checks; imprisonment without charge;
deportation; travel restrictions and the list goes on. Corporations are imposing ever more
unrealistic targets and working conditions on their employees. Many fear further repression
and a police state.
I believe there will be a backlash and rebellion against all this control as Pluto moves through
Capricorn, with people refusing to conform, leaving the system and insisting on the ethical
use of power. Scandals and corruption in government and large corporations will come to light
and the reputation of many of our cherished institutions will be tarnished. In fact many old
forms of government and ways of doing business are likely to disappear altogether.
Those who have been in positions of power and used it wisely will have the opportunity for
further success or promotion, while those who have misused power will meet their downfall.
We can also expect that an international cross-cultural elite of extremely rich and powerful people will wield enormous influence, with much of this action taking place behind closed
doors.
Astrologer Adrian Duncan believes the Shanghai World Financial Centre, due for completion
in 2008, is a quintessential symbol of the move of Pluto into Capricorn. The design of the
super tower mirrors the glyph for Pluto with a circle cradled into a curved V form rising up
through its 95 storeys. Duncan believes the Shanghai building also symbolises the shift of
economic power from the West to the East, with the destruction of the New York World Trade
Centre paving the way. The exporting of jobs from Western countries to Asia has empowered
our Eastern neighbours and could easily signify the beginning of the end for life in the West,
as we know it.
By the time Pluto enters Aquarius in 2023-24, humanitarian concerns will be firmly on the
agenda. The doctrine of survival of the fittest will give way to a levelling process. Perhaps we
could we create a better, more peaceful world over the next decade by taking personal
responsibility and showing that we need fewer rules and regulations from the outside world.
As long as we continue to project responsibility onto authorities, the police state will rise to the
occasion to provide the discipline we unconsciously desire, keeping us in constant fear and
taking away our human rights.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPRICORN
From the 22 nd December to the 21 st January the Sun travels through earth sign Capricorn,
noted for her shrewdness, self-discipline, determination to get ahead and respect for tradition
and authority. Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac with keywords “I aspire” and “I persist”.
Capricorns have practical and executive ability, are very responsible and love status. They
are prepared to work incredibly hard to achieve their dreams and goals. Those born under the
sign of the Goat often lead a solitary existence, feeling burdened by the responsibility they
carry and struggling with the limitations of material life. At best they use their leadership skills
to serve the community and act as pillars of strength for friends and family, believing patient
hard work brings its own rewards. Negatively, Capricorns can be selfish, mean, ruthless and
materialistic with a tendency to arrogance and autocratic or controlling behaviour. Think
Scrooge. In medical astrology, Capricorn rules the skin, knees and bones also has a reflex
action on the stomach. When Capricorns are out of balance they can suffer from rheumatism,
arthritis, skin complaints such as rashes and boils and digestive disturbances. There can be a
tendency towards pessimism and depression. The Capricorn colours are brown and black.
Capricorn’s greatest lesson is to lighten up and express their feelings.
If you’re having trouble dealing with a Capricorn, ask yourself – “How can I gain their
respect?”. These guys work incredibly hard, so showing you’ve noticed their efforts will go
down well. “What a beautiful car/camera/garden/wine cellar – you must be so proud….etc.
How long did it take you to XXXX?”
If you’re a lazy, laid-back couch surfer, you may want to try impressing someone else!
AUSTRALIA DAY FAA CONFERENCE
(PLUTO IN CAPRICORN - EMERGING FROM THE CHRYSALIS)
The Federation of Australian Astrologers is hosting its 17 th International Conference over the
Australia Day weekend at the University of Sydney. With a stellar line-up of international and
local speakers, this conference will appeal to those with a basic or advanced understanding of
astrology who wish to extend their knowledge and mix with like-minded people. I attended my
first FAA Conference in 1992 and it really opened my mind to the possibilities of astrology.
The conference program has four lecture streams: psychological & mythological; mundane &
financial; trends and forecasting and supplementary techniques. There are also pre and post
conference workshops.
