STELLA LECTURING AT VICTORIAN ASTROLOGERS ASSOCIATION
If you’re a practising astrologer or student of astrology, you may be interested in a workshop I’m holding at the Victorian Astrologers Association in South Melbourne on Saturday 18th October at 2 pm on ‘How to Write Horoscope Columns for Newspapers and Magazines’. There’s no need to book – just come along on the day.
The afternoon will be divided into two parts.
PART ONE
In the first part I explain how I have used sun sign columns (horoscopes) to attract more clients and how you could do the same. We will then study three different approaches to writing a sun sign column ranging from the light-on to the serious. I will then give you an easyto-follow formula for writing your own sun sign columns.
PART TWO
In the second part of the afternoon, we will divide into small groups, each group charged with coming up with their own forecast. This second part of the session is meant to be fun and exploratory, rather than challenging and competitive!
Time & Date 18th October 2008 at 2 pm
Venue South Melbourne Community Hall, cnr Park St & Ferrars Place, South Melbourne

SATURN–URANUS OPPOSITION – A BRAVE NEW WORLD
Saturn is the furthest planet we can see with the naked eye - we need a telescope to see Uranus. When these two mighty bodies oppose each other in the heavens every forty years, we are challenged on a collective level to move beyond the rigidity and dogma of Saturn, as the old order collapses around us. A Saturn-Uranus opposition occurs from late 2008 to 2010 in practical earth sign Virgo and spiritual water sign Pisces, representing the idea of land vs. ocean; food vs. water; material wellbeing vs. spiritual wellbeing and what is achievable vs. what we dream of achieving. With global warming and an international food, water and energy crisis already upon us, we know what is at stake. The recent meltdown of the US economy is simply another nail in the coffin. Change is upon us whether we like it or not!
Those born in the mid-sixties were also born under a Saturn-Uranus opposition at a time when a social and feminist revolution changed the course of history. In the sixties, the issues were civil rights, sexual freedom, drugs, equality and the breakdown of the traditional family structure. Many welcomed the changes. Others felt threatened as their world crumbled.
The world as we know it is crumbling again. Saturn opposing Uranus suggests a conflict or negotiation between young and old, tradition and progress, established values versus new ideas. As the mid-sixties babies approach middle age, the current Saturn-Uranus opposition is the exact reversal of the Saturn-Uranus opposition of the 1960s. This double axis suggests that those in their early to mid forties will be instrumental in bringing about the new world order.
The main problem facing us during the crucial phase of these cycles is, “How can we constructively use the creative power of Uranus to challenge the inertia and false security of our mindset, ego, beliefs and lifestyle?” We must also face the challenge of being part of the process of social change that these crucial phases of the Saturn-Uranus cycle measure. It’s time to get clear on our beliefs about power, leadership and personal integrity and start to ‘think globally and act locally’.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIBRA
The Sun travels through air sign Libra from 23rd September until 23rd October this year. Libra is the seventh sign of the zodiac with keywords “I balance” and “I seek my other half”. Those born under the sign of the Scales promote love and harmony and teach us about give and take. They adore relationships, are often cultured or artistic and are experts in charm, diplomacy and negotiation. Negatively, Librans can be superficial, indecisive, manipulative or dependent and because they hate unpleasantness or disagreement, they often avoid conflict or reality. In medical astrology, Libra rules the kidneys, lumbar region and skin, so when Librans are out of balance they can suffer from lower back pain, kidney problems, urinary tract problems and skin diseases such as eczema. The Libra colours are ivory, pink, turquoise and blue. Libra’s greatest lesson is to learn to develop the ‘inner partner’ and become whole rather than seek an outer partner to feel complete.
How to handle a Libra
Well, it’s more a question of how to stop them handling you! These career diplomats will subtly manoeuvre you into a corner and you won’t be able to refuse their ever-so-pleasant requests. But if you do find yourself needing to handle a Libra, charm and diplomacy is the way to go. Smile, ask them nicely and they’ll almost always say ‘Yes’.
SEDUCING A LIBRAN
TIPS FOR MEN
Flowers, chocolates, and perfume, the classic romantic formula, will attract Libra, the quintessential romantic. Invite her to a movie and hold her hand. Uncouth behaviour and dirty jokes are out! Most women dislike this sort of stuff, but a Libra gal will be completely repelled. She’s a refined creature - try taking her to an art gallery or music concert. If that isn't her scene, try an outdoor picnic in a romantic location - with bottle of champagne of course - Libras love champagne! She likes a partner full of interesting ideas and witty conversation who can woo her in style.
TIPS FOR WOMEN
These guys like to chat and charm, so show off your own social graces and love of culture and you will impress. The Libra guy can often seem laid back or even lazy. Don't be fooled. He's a master of social interaction and knows exactly what's going on. Show him how much you appreciate his PR ability and you can't fail! He’s usually pretty smart and loves to get to know people so there'll be plenty to discuss. You can move onto more interesting topics later! Invite him for dinner or drinks and brush up against him gently.
HEAR STELLA ON TALKBACK RADIO
For the past six years, I’ve been the guest on an astrology talkback segment on Melbourne’s 3RRR radio station. Several of you have written asking when you can hear me on air, so I thought I’d publish the dates for you. If you’re in Greater Melbourne, it’s easy to tune in and the program is also available on streaming audio via the 3RRR website www.rrr.org.au (but only while the show is being broadcast). I start with a brief run down of what’s happening in the stars that week, and then the lines open for talkback callers asking questions about astrology and how it affects their lives. Anyone is welcome to call in for free on (03) 9388 1027.
Upcoming shows Wednesday 15th October (10-11 am) & Wednesday 29th October (10-11 am) Wax Lyrical - Melbourne’s 3RRR 102.7 FM - hosted by Namila Benson
OCTOBER ASTRO ENERGIES
With Jupiter and Pluto both moving forward again, plans and activities that have been on hold or delayed since May can be successfully reactivated. Many will breathe a sigh of relief, especially after the 16th when the Mercury retrograde cycle ends and the communication planet resumes his forward journey bringing clarity and focus. The early part of the month is a good time to reflect on existing relationships and make any necessary changes. With Mars moving into home sign Scorpio on the 4th, passion and desire are running high.
Chiron, which has been conjunct the North Node since May, is nearing the end of this partnership. The North Node is a signpost to our future evolutionary direction, and Chiron, the Healer has been bringing old wounds into the conscious mind to be healed. Although this is not always an easy process, it is an important one. Painful experiences hold energy and until these experiences have been thoroughly digested and released, we cannot move forward. Chiron will be conjunct the North Node until mid-October.
The Aries full moon on the 15th is a time of heightened emotion. The Sabian Symbol for this full moon is Cosmic Optimism – the abundance and fulfilment of dreams made possible by people working together and helping each other. Be aware of those around you and how you could add sparkle to their existence.
Venus moves into light-hearted Sagittarius on the 19th bringing a desire for fun, travel and study. This is a good time to plan a summer holiday or book a weekend away. It’s also a good time for taking a few risks in romance!
The Sun heads into passionate Scorpio on the 22nd. This resourceful and determined energy will give you the power and stamina to improve your life by pruning dead wood making way for new growth. The Scorpio new moon on the 29th is a particularly emotional and intense time. Meditation and quiet retreat will help you focus on what is important.
Finally Pagans celebrate the festival of Beltane on the 31st. The Celts lit great bonfires to mark this time of transition from spring to summer. Beltane honours fertility – nesting birds, mating livestock, blossoming trees and buzzing bees. Traditionally anything went during this holiday so use your imagination!
