ASTRO UPDATE – SEPTEMBER 2009

By Stella Woods, 01-09-2009

OCTOBER MAGIC & MANIFESTATION COURSE

My next eight week Magic & Manifestation course starts on Monday 5th October in Elwood, Melbourne at 7.30 pm. Don’t miss out. If you’d like to join us, fill in the booking form at the end of this newsletter OR phone Stella on 03 9534 5021 with your credit card details OR click here Magic & Manifestation Course to go straight to the website for info on course content, photos and participant feedback. We had a great time at the last course and even I was shocked by what the group managed to manifest in such a short time. A $30,000 order…. a new boyfriend…. an engagement… a brand new car and a partnership in a healing centre! And those were just the material benefits. The real value of this course is having the opportunity to focus on your dreams and goals in a supportive and positive environment.

The last course booked out, so if you’re interested, reserve your place now.

SATURN URANUS OPPOSITION THIRD HIT GENERATION ‘Y’ TAKES THE REINS

When Saturn and Uranus oppose each other in the heavens every forty years, we are challenged on a collective level to move beyond the rigidity and dogma of Saturn, as the old order collapses around us. September brings the third hit of the Saturn-Uranus opposition which began last year and continues for most of 2010. Saturn opposing Uranus suggests a conflict or negotiation between young and old, tradition and progress, established values versus new ideals and ideas. With global warming, financial meltdown and an international food, water and energy crisis already upon us, we know what is at stake. The last time this opposition occurred was mid 1965 to early 1967 when a social revolution changed the course of Western history, paving the way for long haired hippies, flower power, Woodstock, the Beatles, LSD, student riots and sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll. These icons seem a bit tame now to our cool, street-smart, interconnected global economy, but for those who can remember that mid to late sixties period, it was a time of revolution and freedom.

So here we go again – it’s time for a new world order. And what will that mean for you? With Pluto in Capricorn forming a backdrop to the Saturn-Uranus opposition, the clear target for meltdown is everything ruled by Capricorn. That means bricks and mortar, the economy, banks, money, governments, big business and any hierarchical or status-ridden structure. In the 1960s, Pluto was in Virgo and the casualty of the Saturn-Uranus opposition was ‘morality and values’. Hippies with long hair smoking marijuana with bare breasts and flowery shirts listening to weird music did little harm. The real threat was their refusal to conform to the old way of doing things.

So if non-conformity is on the menu over the next decade, we have the likelihood of our youth (Generation Y) refusing to participate in the Capricorn dream. That means refusing to: buy houses; take out mortgages; obey or even have superiors; get degrees; participate in the superannuation and banking system or kow-tow to business and government rules and regulations. Refusing to work long hours, refusing to climb up the corporate ladder and refusing to wait until they’re middle aged to run the show! Choosing environment over economy. Time over money. Pleasure over work. Personal satisfaction over career success. Will there be anarchy? Probably no more so than forty years ago, but things will definitely change. And if you’re one of those complaining about Generation Y and their lack of respect, attitude problem and over-reliance on technology .... well you’d better get used to their new world order…. just like people had to in the 1960s!

FEATURED SIGN CANCER

From the 21st June to the 22nd July the Sun travels through cardinal water sign Cancer. Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac with keywords “I feel” and “I fluctuate”. Cancer’s symbol is the crab, an instinctive creature dwelling in the watery depths in the safety of its shell. Cancers are extremely sensitive. They love to mother and nurture others and have a strong attachment to home, family and community. At best Cancers are in touch with their feelings and display kindness, love and compassion. They are highly emotional, usually love food and have a reputation for taking care of friends, family and workmates. Negatively, the Cancer individual can be moody, dependent, illogical, manipulative and insecure. Cancer rules the stomach, breasts and solar plexus. When Cancers are out of balance they suffer from digestive upsets, water retention and breast problems. The Cancer colours are silver and pastel shades and women born under this sign often love antique jewellery and lingerie! Cancer is ruled by the Moon, so those with a prominent Moon in their chart often display Cancer qualities. Cancer’s greatest lesson is to live in the present and to deal with their feelings of fear and insecurity.

CANCER MYTHOLOGY

Cancer, as an archetype, appears in all tales involving the mother. The positive side of the Cancer myth is the good, kind and all nurturing mother - Mother Earth, the Cosmic Womb, the Fairy Godmother, Gaia, Isis etc. The dark face of this character is the mother who either prevents her children from achieving their individual potential, or destroys them rather than risk losing them or see them surpass her in greatness. So we have here the archetype of the Terrible or Jealous Mother, the Dark Mother, Witch or Wicked Stepmother, beloved of fairy tales. Remember Snow White and her wicked stepmother with the famous mantra “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all”? A woman threatened by the beauty of her stepdaughter and who repeatedly tried to kill Snow White.

One Greek myth that mirrors the symbolism of Cancer stipulated that any son of the sea goddess Thetis would be greater than his father, so no god dared have children with her. Instead, Thetis married a mortal, Peleus and they had seven sons. Thetis could not bear the thought of her children dying as mortals so she burned off their flesh, believing her children would be immortalised in the process. As she was burning the last son, Achilles, his father caught her and snatched the boy away by his ankle. Peleus’s fingers kept Achilles’ heel from burning and this still mortal flesh became the hero’s weak spot. Achilles eventually died from an arrow wound to the heel.

Another myth associated with Cancer, is the tale of Hercules and the Crab. When Hercules was fighting the Hydra monster, his stepmother Hera, who feared Hercules would undermine her, sent an enormous crab to bite him. Hercules was almost killed in the ensuing battle, but managed to crush the crab underfoot while also killing the Hydra and thwarting Hera’s plan.

How to handle a Cancer

With kid gloves. Cancers are extremely sensitive, so even if they appear tough or unemotional, don’t be fooled by that crabby exterior. Food is always a good ploy – feed them or let them feed you. And don’t force them to go far from home or out of their comfort zone. This is a sign that seriously loves and thrives on home turf. Finally show some vulnerability yourself – the Crab is genuinely kind and caring and loves to offer tea and sympathy.

SEDUCING A CANCER

TIPS FOR MEN

It's hard to get a Cancer to leave her home so try a surprise visit with a bunch of flowers. Most Cancer women need little encouragement to cook dinner so if you're asked to stay, don't turn the invitation down. If you're good at fixing things, offer to mend that shelf or cut the grass. She will be impressed! And if ever a woman loved lingerie, it’s a Cancer woman. Not the tacky, flesh revealing type, the sensual, soft, silky, lacy style. Silver jewellery should go down well as Cancer is ruled by the silvery moon. In fact, a moonlit walk in the park or country might just set the scene for a night of passion!

TIPS FOR WOMEN

Let him cook for you or return the favour. Romance and food have always gone well together and if you add a good bottle of wine and some soft lighting, your Cancer man will positively glow. If you're less romantically inclined, try DVDs, beer and take-away snuggled up on the sofa. Who could resist? Invite him on an outing with your nephew and nieces - he loves children and will admire a partner who is caring and kind. Try a picnic in the park or an afternoon at the movies with an expensive bar of chocolate. Cancer men like anything that appeals to the senses and isn't that what you're trying to do?

SEPTEMBER ASTRO-ENERGIES

Communication planet Mercury turns retrograde on the 7th in Libra, sign of personal relationship. Relationships go under the microscope and those that are lacking in integrity could dissolve over the coming weeks. The retrograde transit of Mercury is an excellent time for reflection rather than action. Complete existing projects, rather than initiating new ones and avoid making important decisions until after the 29th when your thought process will be clearer and relevant information to hand. Traditionally, Mercury retrograde can signify problems with electronic equipment and anything that transmits information from A to B. Cars, phones, transport, fax and answering machines can all malfunction. Schedules change, trips are cancelled, letters go missing, misunderstandings abound...the universe seemingly forces us to slow down and go within.

A Sun Saturn conjunction mid month helps us forge serious plans and take on major commitments. With retrograde Mercury and Uranus in the mix we can find creative solutions to challenging problems. These four planets are joined by the Virgo new moon on the 19th.

Venus heads into health conscious Virgo on the 20th just in time for the spring equinox. Venus in Virgo coupled with the new moon makes this a good time for a diet or fitness program or simply taking steps towards a more balanced lifestyle. Learn how to set boundaries and know when it is time to retreat or rest.

SEPTEMBER NEW MOON / FULL MOON

The September full moon falls on the 5th in romantic Pisces. A massage, beauty treatment or trip to the hairdresser’s will surely boost your spirits. This full moon is also a favourable time for meditation and getting in touch with feelings. With Venus in Leo until the 20th, you might also like to spruce up your wardrobe or plan a spring break with friends and family.

The September new moon is on the 19th in health conscious Virgo making this a good time for a diet or fitness program or simply taking steps towards a more balanced lifestyle. Get plenty of fresh air and enjoy moving your body as the weather warms up.
