Hi and welcome to the Stella Starwoman February AstroUpdate!
Lunar Eclipse in Australia
Hopefully you managed to get outside and view last night’s full moon eclipse – a splendid sight, providing the skies were clear where you are. Lunar eclipses or blood moons occur at the full moon when the earth casts a shadow across the face of the moon, changing its colour from bright white to a coppery-orange or ruddy-brown hue. Because the full moon disappears, it’s as though there’s a new moon at the exact moment of the full moon, representing a completely new beginning.
Ash, my assistant in Melbourne, sent me this email.
Hi Stella - I write to you as I am watching the eclipse. I am standing on the balcony looking away from the beach. The moon shows a red crescent while the top third is topped by a white blue cap of light that starts to take on a yellow red shade. Now the light starts to dim. The cap has now turned into a halo. The orange shadow that is the moon can now be seen. This is amazing!
Thank you Ash! Now if you did miss the eclipse (as I did being in the UK where it happened during the day) you can watch it from the comfort of your desk/bed/living room courtesy of the wonders of video cameras, youtubian technology and the live feed from the Time & Date website. Simply click on the link below and fast forward through the video to see the lunar eclipse unfold in all its glory.
Yesterday’s full moon was in creative fire sign Leo with the sun in Aquarius. The Aquarius-Leo polarity asks us to balance our need to shine and be special vs our commitment to tribe and community. This will be a major theme over the coming month.
Romancing the Stars on Valentine’s Day
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching here are a few tips for those in search of the perfect partner. While there are common traits to every successful relationship, each person is attracted to something slightly different, based on the zodiac signs dominating their chart (especially placements for the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars, Ascendant & Descendant). So in preparation for Valentine’s Day… here’s what your special someone might be searching for:
Aries – adventure, risk, speed and spontaneity
Taurus – comfort, security, food and predictability
Gemini – intellectual stimulation and variety
Cancer – emotional support, family and understanding
Leo – fun, creativity, achievement and admiration
Virgo – purity, practicality, nature and integrity
Libra – beauty, harmony, the arts and companionship
Scorpio – intensity, emotional depth, sexual passion
Sagittarius – freedom, adventure, truth and wisdom
Capricorn – stability, status, wealth and power
Aquarius – humanitarianism, progress and justice
Pisces – romance, fantasy, creativity and sensitivity
Armed with this information, you can also use my seven-point checklist to check your relationship compatibility. In my astrological practice, I find the final item (lack of shared long term goals) to be the most common reason for break ups.
- Are you physically attracted to each other?
- Do you enjoy hanging out together – talking and doing things? Do you have an unspoken understanding of each other?
- Do you share the same values – spiritual, ethical, philosophical? Do you like each other’s friends and family?
- Do you respect each other?
- Do you have shared long-term goals?
Love makes the world go round or as Virgil said: ‘Amor vincit omnia’
Wishing you a very Happy Valentine’s Day!
Venus in Pisces – Hopelessly Romantic
Venus rules love, beauty, creativity, money and pleasure and each month she cruises through a different sign of the zodiac. This month she visits romantic water sign Pisces, meaning life will be seen through glorious rose-coloured glasses, enhancing imagination, art, romance, fashion, music and all forms of beauty and creativity. Venus will be floating through Pisces from 11th February to 7th March, which coincides nicely with Valentine’s Day, so stock up the fridge with champagne, turn on the music and start dreaming now!
Chinese Year of the Earth Dog – Action Stations!
The Chinese New Year of the Earth Dog begins on the 16th February at the Aquarius New Moon. The keyword for 2018 is ACTION – the year holds much promise, but you could find yourself exhausted by the end of it! The theme of action combines well with the preponderance of planets in earth signs, meaning it’s a year for planning ahead, working hard and keeping feet on the ground and eyes on the target.
In Chinese astrology, those born in the Year of the Dog (2006, 1994, 1982, 1970, 1958, 1946, 1934, 1922) are considered to be fair-minded, faithful, honest, courageous and prepared to sacrifice their own dreams, ambitions and desires for the sake of others, particularly those they love. Fiercely loyal, they will jump to the defence of anyone they feel has been wronged. Their warmth, empathy and genuine interest in others mean they have many friends. Those born in the Year of the Dog can expect a pleasant and productive year ahead, particularly with regard to finances.
Aquarius New Moon & Solar Eclipse
This month’s new moon is in air sign Aquarius on the 16th February with the sun and moon conjunct in the sign of the water bearer forming a partial solar eclipse. Solar eclipses occur every six months and always at a new moon when the sun and moon are at the exact same point of the zodiac with the moon blocking out the light of the sun. The Aquarius new moon is conjunct communication planet Mercury and the asteroids Juno and Hygiea, making the focus of this moon cycle revolutionary thinking, committed relationships and health. Symbolically, eclipses intensify situations, allowing hidden energies to rise to the surface. It is wise to avoid making major decisions or starting new projects just before an eclipse, as new information often comes to light at the time of the eclipse, forcing us to revise our plans.
Happy Birthday Pisces
From the 19th February to the 21st March, the Sun will travel through mutable water sign Pisces, noted for her dreaminess, escapist nature and love of fantasy. Pisces is the twelfth and final sign of the zodiac with keywords, “I merge” and “I seek redemption ”. With Pisces, the inner self is preparing for retreat from the world and as the ego dissolves, boundaries are weakened and impressionability and sensitivity increases. Pisceans are versatile and adaptable, gentle and compassionate. They are often psychic and highly attuned to the spiritual plane. Those born under the sign of the Fishes excel as counsellors, healers, actors, artists and musicians. Many are attracted to the fashion and movie industries. At best they serve humanity and practice unconditional love. Negatively, Pisceans can be victims and martyrs, known for self- sabotage or self-sacrifice. There is also a tendency to rescue or ‘save’ others. In medical astrology, Pisces rules the toes, feet and lymphatic system. There is sometimes a reflex effect on the abdominal region governed by opposite sign, Virgo. When Pisceans are out of balance they often suffer from foot trouble, intestinal diseases and fluid buildup. Addiction to drugs and alcohol is also common. The Pisces colours are sea green, purple and the various shades of blue. Pisces’s greatest lessons are discrimination, setting boundaries and protecting and grounding themselves.
Mars in Sagittarius - Freedom, Truth & Integrity
This month action planet Mars continues his journey through fire sign Sagittarius pushing us all to define exactly what freedom, truth and integrity mean on an individual level. Mars will be in Sagittarius right through to 18th March, so head out and enjoy all the things Saggies are famous for – travelling; being adventurous; playing sport; thinking; studying; debating; over-indulging and just occasionally…promising more than they can deliver!
February & March Moon Calendar
Launch projects a couple of days after the New Moon, bring them to completion in the period from just before the Full Moon to the Third Quarter phase and wind them down and reflect on developments in the week before the next New Moon.
The period between the New Moon and the Full Moon is the waxing moon (moon getting bigger and fuller). The period between the Full Moon and the New Moon is the waning moon (moon getting smaller and thinner).
You can use this moon table to select the most favourable days to slow or increase hair regrowth. Full instructions can be found in my Lunar Hair Care guidelines but to get you started I’ve marked the best dates for waxing/shaving to slow regrowth in yellow and the best dates to cut hair for thicker, lusher growth in green. If you’re serious about Lunar Hair Care – why not purchase a moon calendar, available at most esoteric book stores, then you’ll know exactly what time of day the moon changes from one zodiac sign to the next, meaning you can fine-tune your activities with confidence.
